Southcrest Christian School offers many fine arts classes, beginning with music from Pre-K - 4th grades. During 5th and 6th grades, all students are enrolled in band and begin learning the basics of playing, reading, and understanding written music. Band is offered as an elective to students enrolled in 7th – 12th grades. Our award winning band program has earned first division in all contests entered as well as many Best in Class awards. Students have excelled by advancing to the state level in solo and ensemble competitions as well as several being selected for All Region Band and Honor Band. During the 2013-2014 school year, a senior at SCS was selected to the All State Band while competing against students in both public and private schools.
Art is offered as an elective for students enrolled in 7th – 12th grades. Our art classes have an art show exhibit annually where student’s artwork is highlighted. Our art teacher routinely enters student artwork in local competitions, including The Arts Festival and The Fair. Many students are awarded ribbons at both competitions.
Musical Theater is offered as an elective for students enrolled in 7th – 12th grades. This class is a mixture of both choir and musical theater. Students will study the work of the actor and singer and use their gained knowledge to develop as performers. Students will prepare and present as soloists as well as members of small groups and larger ensembles. Since this is also a music course, students will study music theory as well as learn how to read music. In addition, students will evaluate theatrical performances, prepare audition material and perform on stage in front of various audiences.
