Structure of Intellect
The Structure of Intellect is a theory of human intelligence that was developed from 1945 to 1965 by Dr. J. P. Guilford and his colleagues at the University of Southern California. The SOI is the application of the Structure of Intellect theory to various learning situations. It has been in continuous use and development from 1965 to the present.
SOI applies the Structure of Intellect to learning - general education, reading instruction, remedial education, gifted education, training and retraining, and career counseling. SOI is applicable to all of these diverse areas because it identifies how human intelligence and its development (or lack of development) are related to demands of learning. This is described in the SOI Model for Learning.
Southcrest Christian School utilizes the following SOI programs as part of every day instruction in Pre-Knidergarten and Kindergarten:
- Learning Discovery - Learning Discovery is designed to prepare preschool students for the expectations of primary education. Both cognitive and perceptual abilities are strengthened with this program. (Pre-Kindergarten classes)
- Certified Learning - Certified Learning, a web-based program, teaches all of the intellectual abilities your student needs for academic success. The skills and abilities are taught through workbook, computer, and physical exercises at the student’s individual pace. (Kindergarten)
We also offer the Integrated Practice Protocol (IPP) program to students who need assistance with a learning difficulty. The IPP program works to improve attention span, memory, comparison/contrast thinking, eye-hand coordination, systems reasoning, and other skills essential to the learning process. (Offered in 2nd – 12th grades)
